Biography
It was in the spring of 1984 that Glen Sjoberg graduated from Weber State University with a degree in data processing. He was fascinated with one of his senior level classes on databases and was particularly intrigued with the relational model for databases, which at the time was theoretical, since there were no computers powerful enough to support a relational database. Glen was hired by GTE right out of college and soon found himself on a team assigned to redesign and implement their warehousing systems using a relational database. He worked as a database administrator for more than 32 years.
About 17 or 18 years ago, Glen became interested in the internet during what has become known as the dot-com era. He also started investing in the internet during what has become known as the “dot-com bubble,” with companies that were in the news and taking off like crazy. He was doing quite well with this hobby; that is, until the dot-com bubble burst and he lost a lot of what he had gained. Luckily, he was wise and was investing only “extra” or “play” money that he was not counting on to meet living expenses.
A few years later, a financial advisor met with Glen and his wife and recommended a financial plan, opening their eyes to the fact that they were not preparing adequately for their retirement. It was at this time that Glen first heard the term “actively managed money.” With his recent experience with investing in stocks, he was fascinated with the concept.
During the next year, while still somewhat skeptical of the financial plan, Glen and his wife were working the plan anyway. At the annual review, the advisor showed them where they had been and where they were at that point, and how much further ahead they were than they thought they would be. Their advisor then surprised Glen by suggesting that with his background and interest in investing, he thought Glen would be a great financial advisor and could help others like himself become better prepared financially.
Fast forward to now. For the last decade, Glen has been doing just that: helping other families open their eyes to the financial possibilities they were not aware of that would help them for the rest of their lives.
Glen has held Series 6 and Series 63 securities registrations and currently holds a Series 65 securities registration as an investment advisor representative (IAR) with Global View Capital Management.
